HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
There is no way of accurately dating this watch to a particular year, but the movement production dates suggest this was made circa 1965.
CONDITION
We bought this watch based on the condition of it. It is impossible to pin this to a particular year, and the style of the watch is quite conservative, but we were not going to turn down a watch this clean that can be offered at a very attractive price. In fact, you can buy this vintage Swiss made mechanical watch for about the same price as the mass produced quartz Rotary watches made who knows where (but not Switzerland – Rotary do have a Swiss factory, but only the more expensive pieces are made there. This watch features an AS1950/51 manual wind movement, with 17 jewels and Incabloc shock protection on the balance. This is all running well. The case is gold plated, and only shows wear on the tips of the lugs – far easier to see on enlarged photos than in real life. The lugs also have witness marks to where a bracelet may have been fitted in the past, but we have fitted a new leather strap, and this could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
