The Le Cheminant Skymaster Chronograph is a very rare watch. Having the original box is even rarer.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The Landeron 189 is one of the rarer of the Landeron 48 based movements, which were in production between 1937 and 1970. The mid point of this is 1958/9, and this watch has the 3 minute chronograph markers for timing telephone calls. These seem to stop being used about 1962. Sadly we are unlikely to get a more accurate date of production, but if you know more then please do contact us.
CONDITION
The Caliber 189 was not common, but the most famous watch that does use it is the Heuer Dato 45 – a £6,000+ watch these days.
We have found Le Cheminant Skymaster that was sold by Bonhams for £1,680 back in 2011, but that was a more complicated watch with triple calendar.
This example is very nice to wear. The movement is working perfectly, snapping back to 12 smartly. The dial is overall very clean, with just a couple of spots near the 20 second marker on the left subdial to note. The oversized fat dagger hands are nice. The date changes nicely, but doesn’t have any quickset facility. The crown is probably a later replacement, not quite sitting flush to the case. We have fitted a new pigskin leather strap, but if you wanted a different colour we can change this. The gold plated case doesn’t show too many marks except for on the lugs, where we suspect an ill fitting bracelet has marked them.
This watch will be supplied with the rare original box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
