This Sorna Sornadat watch has a magnificent copper coloured dial, and a little extra in the history.  Model reference 836.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Sorna registered the trademark Sornadat in 1953, and the production dates of the movement are circa 1955, so this ties in nicely with a production date of circa 1955.

CONDITION

If you read the stainless steel caseback this watch has several boasts – waterproof, lifetime mainspring, antimagnetic – even radar timed (which we confess we have no idea what radar timing is!  But if you look around the edge of the stainless steel case back you see the metal is pitted and has a gold tinge to it.  On the enlarged photos it is easy to see that this watch started off gold plated, but this has rubbed off, possibly deliberately, and now only traces of gold plating remain.  This gives an intriguing hint of gold to the case that matches the hands and crown, and is not unpleasant.  It is a unique finish.  The dial looks great, but up close there are a few small marks.  The date works, and while the 21 jewel movement is not the highest grade it keeps time to within a couple of minutes a day.  The movement used is an Ebosa 65 CLD pin pallet, so was never expensive.  The tan leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.  This is an inexpensive and scarce watch, with a unique look, so we are happy to offer it.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
