A simple sidereal Nero 30 minute stopwatch with a quality movement by Lemania, still working perfectly today.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Stop watches are difficult to date, as the movements were often in production for decades. This example looks to be from the mid fifties, and the serial number starts 54 which may or may not be a clue. The same movement is in this c1939 stopwatch but by this later Lemania Nero the Sidereal stop/go function had all been incorporated in the crown.
CONDITION
Lemania are best known for their chronograph movements, and were Heuer’s largest rival in that market (and remember stopwatches were used in various sorts of businesses, schools and by the military all the time back then). In 1932 the company joined Tissot and Omega to form SIHH, and the most famous Lemania movements will be found in the Speedmaster watches. But this is a simpler stopwatch, and doesn’t have the Omega moniker, so the price is very reasonable.
The case back is nice and tight, including the dust cover, but the chrome shows appropriate wear on the case back for the age. The functions are all working perfectly, which are shown on the video. The bow is still the perfect tightness, so this stopwatch may not have had a hard life.
