A white gold ladies watch from a good Swiss maker, Wittnauer, with the case set with ten diamonds.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We have not been able to put an accurate date on the production for this watch. US gold is not hallmarked, and we can not find adverts or serial number tables for Wittnauer. We have based the date of circa 1950 based on the styling and the movement technology.
CONDITION
If you have not heard of Wittnauer you are probably not based in the USA. Albert Wittnauer was only 16 when he moved from Switzerland to New York to join his brother in a watch import business back in 1885. Wittnauer became the sole import agent for Longines, Vacheron Constantin and other high end Swiss brands and also had watches made with their name on them too. Just like this one.
We are not gemologists, but we have tested all ten stones and they report to be diamond. It would be unusual to put cheaper alternatives when you have a gold case, so we are not surprised. The manual wind movement is keeping reasonable time, and has KIF shock protection to keep everything running nicely. The stretch bracelet is in keeping with the design so could be original.
