This Army Time Piece ATP Grana Timor watch has some history to it.  Military issued during WW2 and still fighting fit for service.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

ATP watches were issued quite widely during the beginning of World War II, and it was only in 1944 that the infamous ‘dirty dozen’ became standard issue.  So we think this watch was issued circa 1940.

CONDITION

Let’s deal with the dirty dozen questions first.  In 1944 twelve manufacturers were chosen by the British Ministry of Defence to make watches for the army.  These makers included IWC, Longines, Omega, Jaeger- LeCoultre as well as more unknown brands like Record, Buren, Timor and Grana.  Let’s be clear – this watch is not a dirty dozen watch.  So why do we mention it?  Simply because the rarest of the Dirty Dozen, and therefore one of the most valuable to collectors, is the Grana.  You would pay many thousands for a Grana dirty dozen watch.

This watch is also a mix of Grana and Timor.  The dial is clearly marked Grana and correct for the period, but the case and movement is made by Timor.  Some time in the past the dial has been swapped, and we will never know if this was done by the MOD watchmakers who did have a reputation for mismatching parts (originality wasn’t their first concern after all), or at a later date.  The Timor case has fixed bars as it should, and the serial number is in the right range for Timor issued watches.  The in house Timor 99B movement works well too.  The dial does have a scar between the centre and ten, which we clearly show in the photos, but otherwise isn’t bad.  The acrylic glass and NATO strap are new, and the video shows the same watch on a different NATO to show the difference a 30 second strap change can make.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
