A rare inter war Services Competitor men’s watch from this Leicester company, with contrasting dial for the subseconds and 24 hours markers around the edge of the dial.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

The Services logo with the speech marks was used until the mid thirties. Amazingly, we have a copy of the original advert for this watch featuring a quote from a British Airways Ltd Pilot.  British Airways Ltd was formed in 1935 and closed in 1939 we have a very narrow window when this watch could have been made.

CONDITION

The chrome case has stood up well to nearly 80 years of use, but does show some marks as you would expect.  Most notable are on the left hand side where the case back has been opened in the past.  The watch is on a new nylon strap. This is an 80+ year old watch, so expect timekeeping to not be as accurate as a modern quartz.  However it has been serviced by a watchmaker who used to work at Services, so it is running as well as you would hope.
