HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The good people at Longines have reviewed the photographs of this watch and the movement and have confirmed this watch was sold to Swatch US on 22nd August 2001. They also confirmed the retail price was 995CHF
CONDITION
Inside this Longines Oposition is the quartz caliber 541 from Longines, but this 27 jewel movement is an ETA 251.262 which was made for Longines. It has several features – the constant seconds is on the subdial on 6, which is where you will also find the date. If you pull the crown out to position one you adjust the hour hand only, which is ideal for travellers across different time zones. By winding it forward you also quick set the date using this function. Then the chronograph has a 1/10th second counter at 2, a 12 hour subdial at 10, and the seconds and minutes for the chronograph are centrally mounted in front of the time reading hour and minute hands. This does mean it it can take a second glance to read the time if all four similar hands are on display, but with the chronograph not running it is far easier. This is shown on the YouTube video. The case and bracelet are all stainless steel, and there is a dent on the no crown side of the case but otherwise it is pretty good. The dial is superb, as is the sapphire crystal. The crown is not signed, which is correct – they never were on the Oposition.
