HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This watch comes with paperwork for delivery and an insurance valuation dated from August 2000, which fits everything else we know about this model too.
CONDITION
When aviation enthusiast Ernest Schneider bought Breitling in 1979 he set a clear path to have the brand renew and strengthen its links with pilots, flying and aeronautics. Many models followed, and the advertising was all focused on aviation themes. Possible the most successful and distinctive watch from this time is the Aerospace range, of which this is the top of the range.
This watch is a tour de force of technology, and it is no cynical marketing ploy either. Titanium is used for the extra light weight in both the bracelet and the case. The digital displays use a special filter to allow them to be visible when using night vision goggles (True!). The the functions are controlled via the crown, which is easy to use and the instructions to set the watch up are available online. This function include a calendar showing day, date and month, timer, chronograph, alarm and a second time zone. The most noticeable function is the Minutes Repetition, or minute repeater. A rare function, but a single push of the crown and the watch will beep the number of hours, followed by a different tone when it beeps the number of minutes. A mechanical minute repeater sounds better, but will cost you multiples of this watch. All functions are working. The bracelet has the original clasp and this has built in stretch, allowing you to be comfortable all day. And this is a very easy watch to wear – 9mm thick and just 72 grams. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner and set the time zones up for their area too.
