With box, papers and a full length bracelet this Gucci watch was one to have in the 1990’s. Model reference 9045M
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the accompanying paperwork we can accurately date this watch to being sold in 1999. The model number on the paperwork is slightly different to that on the case back – 9045M compared to 9040M on the back, but we we have period evidence this is the 9045M (possibly all case backs were stamped with the same reference).
CONDITION
In the 1990’s if you were in your twenties and wanted a sports watch you bought a TAG Heuer, and if you wanted a dress watch you bought a Gucci. They were the main choices, and have lots of similarities – not least sharing the same quartz movement. Both are Swiss made, both were available in either steel, bi metal or gold plate, and both were similar prices on the high street. This model 9045M was availabel with three different dial options, and this slate grey dial is in good condition, as are the hands. The gold plating on this example is excellent – one period reference for this exact model actually describes this as ‘yellow precious metal’ rather than plating. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. . The movement is an ETA 955.412 7 jewel quartz calibre that was used by many good brands at the time, and this one is stamped for Gucci. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. We can not imagine you will find a better example.
