This Tudor Submariner offers something you can not get on the Rolex equivalent model.  Model reference 75090.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number between the lugs we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1992.

CONDITION

Tudor were launched in 1946 as a cheaper option to the the watches from parent company Rolex.  Many of the boxes and advertising will say Tudor by Rolex until the marketing teams decided Tudor was big enough to stand on its own two feet.  Now Tudor are very collectible and rarer than the the equivalent Rolex, while still being more affordable.

Only Rolex watches are allowed to use the word Submariner, but they extended this to the Tudor sister brand too.  But the reference 75090 offers something Rolex never offered – a 36.4mm case.  The smallest Rolex Submariner were the very early ones, at 37mm, and they are unaffordable to most of us.  The slightly later reference 6538 worn by Sean Connery in Dr No. was 38mm, and you would need a budget of at least £50k to be serious about buying a decent one of those.  So if the bulkier 40mm case of a Rolex Submariner puts you off then this Tudor is ideal.

This watch has the same styling clues as the Rolex – date magnifier, 4 lines of text, bidirectional bezel (Rolex bezels were bidirectional for a long time, as they begrudged paying Blancpain to use their patent for unidirectional bezels).  This reference has the sapphire glass too, albeit with some light scratches, and the quick set date,  The long bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and this 6249 bracelet was an option at the time as documented in the excellent book on Tudor watches by Alberto Isnardi – the book itself is proof of how much more Tudor are becoming collectible and valuable.  The watch also suits a leather strap, as shown in one photo.  The Oyster case is protecting an ETA 2824-2 automatic movement, meaning it can be serviced by all good watchmakers as parts are readily available.  The Twinlock crown has the Rolex logo on it as it should, and it screws down positively.  The dial and hands are all good, and the tritium lume is not dirty.  The only negative point is the bezel is very stiff, and some people might like the case and bracelet to be polished (but we prefer the original patina)

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
