The Longines Le Grand Classique is exactly what is claims to be – a classic dress watch. Model reference L4 637 2.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
After seeing photos of the watch and the movement, Longines confirmed that this Grand Classique watch was made in 1992.
CONDITION
The rules for dress watches are that they should be slim, to glide under a shirt cuff, and provide no more than the time. No calendar, no lume, no bracelet, and certainly nothing as crude as a chronograph. That looks to the brief that Longines took on with the Le Grande Classique range, and executed the brief perfectly. The case is gold plated rather than solid gold, helping to keep the cost down, and at under 5mm it is very thin. There is some marks on the side of the case and the case back, but they can not e seen while the watch is being worn. Inside is a Longines branded ETA quartz movement that does nothing but power two hands, and it is running perfectly. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The black hands provide excellent contrast against the pure white dial. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. We have fitted a new Longines buckle to complete the look.
