HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The TAG Heuer 4000 model range ran from 1991 to about 1999, but in 1992 TAG Heuer changed the model numbers from a xxx.xxx number format to two letters followed by four numbers. So from 1992 this watch would have been stamped WF1111 rather than 999.206. Therefore, this watch had to be produced in 1991.
CONDITION
The 4000 Model range sat above the F1/1000/1500/2000 ranges, and the biggest upgrades were the 4000 gets sapphire crystal glass and solid bracelet links, including solid end links. You also got 200m water resistance, a stainless steel case, screw down crown (signed), quick set date and good lume. The case shows some wear, particularly on the top left lug, and the split logo on the case and bezel at 12 has lost a little green and red paint, as pretty much every 4000 does. The dial is a later service replacement, and we think TAG Heuer also replaced the movement at the same time. We explain in the video why we think this is the case, despite having no paperwork to back it up. It also looks as if the hour and minute hand was replaced, but not the seconds hand – the lume on the seconds hand is more aged than the others. The movement is a simple ETA quartz, and we will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and clasp.
