HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in April 1984.
CONDITION
The market for vintage LCD watches is booming right now. This is partly helped because lots of people have happy memories of them, and lots of the lower quality watches in plastic cases and straps have been thrown away, so supply and demand is against the buyer for good watches. It is the same with cars – a Peugeot 205 GTI, also launched in 1984, was/is desirable and not built to last so the few that remain now fetch £10,000+. But the Seiko was built to last, and this is a good watch. Both case and bracelet are made from stainless steel, which made the Seiko a premium choice back in 1984 but means it has lasted well. Seiko were pioneers in the LCD watches, and made the World’s first multifunction LCD watch in 1975, setting the way. This watch has the feeble backlight that seemed to be standard still working, and all the other functions work too including all segments of the LCD screen. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.
