HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We can date this to 1983 from the original owner, who owned the watch from new. His testimony is backed up by the production style, which fits 1983 perfectly.
CONDITION
The watch itself is in very good condition. There is a small scratch on the non crown side, but it is barely noticeable. The bezel is great, and has its original glowing bezel pip at 12 (these are often missing) The caseback and crown are not signed, exactly as they should be for this period. This watch has the 844 case style, which is chunkier than the later Heuer/Tag Heuer 1000’s. The clasp is signed Heuer, but may not be original to the watch – the security clasp doesn’t sit flush, but it is secure. The bracelet has solid links, as Heuer did not cut corners back then. One curious slip in QC was the caseback. The unstamped caseback is marked 980.007, not 980.032. This is not the only example like this, as documented on Heuerville

45.3mm wide including the protected crown, 12.8mm thick. Takes a 20mm strap. The current strap will fit wrists up to 195mm with the wetsuit extension closed. if you open this up it will fit 225mm wrists
