An attractive and chunky Tissot PR516 quartz divers watch.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the Tissot movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1980.
CONDITION
Just like mechanical watches there are various qualities of quartz movements. The Tissot 2031 fitted here is the cousin of the Omega 1370, and it does some things very well indeed. For example, you can change the hour hand independently to the minutes – ideal for travelling or for summer time resetting. A quick press of the crown jumps the second hand once, and if you press and hold the crown it stops the second hand. This way you can be really precise when setting the time. To set the minute hand you press the crown in for 5 seconds, release and quickly press and hold the crown in until the minute hand is where you want it. We have made a video of this that you can see here featuring this exact watch. Visually the dial is great, and the lume still glows well. The glass has been replaced. The bezel turns unidirectionally, as a proper divers watch should, with a stiff click. The case does have some marks, most noticeably around the drilled hidden lugs. The signed crown is original. The movement still has its dust cover in place. The bracelet looks to be a later replacement but does have a Tissot clasp and it is a good length as well as suiting the style and width of the watch.
