This Seiko 6138-8030 automatic chronograph was unofficially nicknamed the JPS, as the black and gold colours resembled the tobacco firms F1 sponsorship of Lotus.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

CONDITION

Online watch blog Worn and Wound have done a nice write up of this model.(using the US 6138-8039 model code)

This particular example is very nice.  Unlike the earlier 6139 Seiko automatic chronographs, the 6138 movement added the ability to hand wind the movement and a second register.  The quick set day and date is working perfectly, and day is in English and Kanji.  The strap is a new camel grain padded Condor item.  The stainless steel case shows very few marks for its 40+ years, and the crystal is likewise very good.  The lume in the hands and hour markers have discoloured.  The tachymeter scale has not faded.
