This men’s Seiko VFA has the moondust dial and rarer roman numerals too. Model reference 3823-7001.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in August 1974.
CONDITION
The VFA was a very expensive watch. When you could buy a new automatic Seiko chronograph for ¥20,000, this cost ¥141,000! The VFA stands for Very Finely Adjusted, and they were about the most accurate watch you could buy in 1974. The model range evolved into the Grand Quartz, so the VFA models actually represent good value for money currently – the Grand Quartz would cost a lot more. The dial and hands are in great condition, but the crystal does have a few marks – we have not been able to find the correct beveled crystal to replace this one with. The 3823 movement is running perfectly, and has quick set day and date in English and Kanji. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bracelet looks very similar to the one in the catalogue, but does not have the end links stamped with Seiko reference codes so may be a replacement. The Seiko stamped clasp is still there though. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
