Possibly the most classic combination of 14k and steel case with jubilee bracelet you can have on a Rolex Datejust.  Model reference 1601.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number between the bottom lugs we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1973.  The bracelet also has a date code from 1982, so the watch may have had a new genuine bracelet at service.  The bracelet also has a stamp for 14, indicating that this version is 14k gold centre links.

CONDITION

An all time classic, the Datejust was launched in 1945 and was nearly called the Jubilee, to mark Rolex’s 40th anniversary.  But as the first automatic watch with date it was decided to call the bracelet design Jubilee instead, and chose a name to celebrate the date function instead.  This version is the long running reference 1601, which was in production for over 20 years.  You get all the Rolex design classic signatures – Fluted solid gold bezel, date magnifier (cyclops) on the acrylic glass, a date wheel with open 6 and 9’s, and a stepped dial.  Inside you have the Rolex 26 jewel, chronometer certified automatic calibre 1570.  This movement was updated in 1972 to feature hacking seconds, and this watch has that little extra.  If you want quick set date though you will need a post 1977 watch with a five digit serial number though.  The case appears unpolished – always check for pointy lugs on these Datejust models as a sign of an overpolished case.  The stepped dial is all original, with faded tritium lume on the dial and hands.  An added little easter egg is the sigma (σ) symbol at the foot of the dial.  Sigma dials were the Swiss way of saying only the finest materials were used for the hands, hour markers and sometimes even the dial would be made of gold too.  The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required.  The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.  The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and clasp.

This watch will be supplied with our branded and reusable zipped travel case and cleaning cloth, and our Certificate of Authenticity.

This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
