HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1973. However the papers are stamped and manually dated for 1980. It could have been in stock a while, or it is possible it was serviced in 1980? We will never know, so 1973 is the more accurate one for a birth year watch.
CONDITION
The hand winding calibre 2461 shared much of the same components as the sister company Omega’s 1461, including a push crown quick set date feature. These often fail, but on this example it does work. We can not include this feature in the warranty however as you can not get the parts to fix it if it did go wrong. You can see it working in the video, and it has been working for 47 years, so hopefully it will continue to do so. As well as the date working, the movement is running well and keeping good time too. The bracelet is a good length, and that is vital when the lugs are like they are on this watch as you can not easily fit a leather strap. Some of the paint is still in the surround on the bracelet clasp – this is normally all disappeared. The case does have some marks on the non crown side of the case, but it is unpolished. The dial is nice, with just a few small marks. The acrylic crystal has been polished but does have a slight chip near four, which is not spreading and is too minor to replace the crystal for.
