CONDITION
Quartz watches were first made available to the public by Seiko on Christmas Day, 1969. So this watch, just a few years later, was a pioneer. It is powered by the Certina 29-251 movement, which is actually a rebadged ESA 9180. This 7 jewel movement was the first ESA/ETA quartz movement made available, and it was launched in 1972. So this is an early example of pioneering technology. What’s more Certina didn’t launch their quartz watches until Baselfair 1973, so this is a very early production for this company, built ready for the launch date. You may be interested to hear it cost 50% more than a Certina DS 1000m Divers watch, or their Chronolympic chronograph – early adopters always pay the price! The case is 20 micron gold plated, and in good shape. The graduated dial is in very period brown, and in nice order. Everything, including the quick set date, is working as it should. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
