A scarce model ,circa 1971 IWC number 3402, with a blue dial and a calendar wheel also in blue. A big size for a vintage watch,
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We can date this to being made circa 1971 because we have checked the movement against the manufacturers database, and this style of watch also appeared in the 1972 IWC catalogue.
CONDITION
The blue dial is stunning in the flesh, almost looking dark purple in some lights. There is a small scratch on the dial just above the International Watch Co logo. The case has been polished but is in good shape. The crown has been replaced with an aftermarket one, but this watch does have a genuine (if later) IWC buckle on the leather strap. This watch wears really well, and the sweep second hand is so smooth. The 12 jewel movement is an IWC marked version of the ESA 9162, meaning spares are easy to obtain if needed. The only spare that we can’t get is a blue calendar wheel, and this is a known issue with this watch – the date sticks on 26. It can be quickset to the next date okay, but we would rather keep the watch with the original blue calendar wheel than fit an incorrect white one.
