This ladies Omega de Ville is set in a UFO style 30mm case with hidden lugs and a wide bezel, meaning it is much larger than most ladies watches of the period.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being produced in 1970.
CONDITION
The model number of this watch is 515.0014, and this tells us that this watch was always intended to be worn on a leather strap. The case is waterproof, and this is done by having an armoured crystal as the only way to get into this watch, and this method is sometimes called a fron loader. Having this one piece case simply reduces where water can get in. Old watches should never be considered to be waterproof, but this design is one of the most secure in this aspect. On this watch both the crown and crystal are signed, indicating they are the originals. The calibre 620 movement is running well. The case has heavy gold plating at 40 microns – many good brands settle at 20 microns – so even where there is a knock at 8 on the case it hasn’t gone through the plating. Unusually for gold plated watches the back is also plated, and this isn’t showing much wear either. The dial has a couple of small marks, and these look far worse on our enlarged photos than they do in real life. The strap is new.
