HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in June 1969. We have found a picture from the catalogue that is very close – the LM initials are not on the catalogue picture, and the bracelet is similar but not quite the same. The price was ¥15,000, which you could also get a King Seiko for in the same catalogue.
CONDITION
This Lord Matic has a unibloc, one piece case that means the movement has to be removed from the front. This not only improves water resistance, but also stops anyone not experienced with tampering with the movement – you need the knowledge to remove the movement with this design. The date only version of the 56 movements is rarer, as most came with day and date, and the quick set date is working correctly too which can be an issue with 56 movements. The lightly lined dial is very clean, and the black hands are straight. We are not sure if the hands used to have lume in them, or if the hollow sections are there by design. The bracelet is not full length and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and clasp.
