Rotary 21 jewel watches at their prime, this watch was a presentation gift for a frankly amazing 45 years at the same company.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being presented in July 1967. The case has the import hallmark from London assay office for 1964. Either year could be valid as a birth year watch, but the 1967 attribution is far stronger.
CONDITION
The Swiss made case, stamped 9.375 for 9 karat gold and assayed in London, has thick lugs and a decent weight case back – some gold watches have to have brass inserts to support the case as it is that thin, but not here. The movement is an A. Schild 1704/05 21 jewel manual wind that is clean and running nicely – the movement features encapsulated jewels, which are a sign of quality that the wearer of the watch probably doesn’t understand or know, but their watchmaker would recognise. The dial is very clean, and the acrylic crystal has had light scratches polished out. The watch will come on the Speidel expanding bracelet as shown in some photos that came with the watch, but the 18mm lugs also allows easy strap choice so we have shown a leather strap too. The expanding straps are notorious for retaining dirt, but this one was very clean and has now been in our ultrasonic bath to shake out the last parts. Judging by the strap and the condition of the watch this has not been worn much.
This watch will be supplied with a Rotary presentation box (this didn’t come with the watch, but we had a spare) and our Certificate of Authenticity.
