One of the most recognisable chronographs from the 1960’s, this Breitling Top Time is always a favourite. Model reference 2008.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1966.
CONDITION
The first Top Time models were launched in 1962, in round cases, but this squared off case is probably the most instantly identifiable model – especially in the reverse panda dial configuration we have here. Later models had ridged cases, which can look great but can also show more wear to the gold plating. This one does have some wear, but still presents well. The dial is original and very good. The manual wind 17 jewel movement is a Valjoux 7730, and is running well except for jumping backwards a couple of seconds sometimes when the chronograph is started, as shown clearly in the video. It is correctly stamped for Breitling on the chronograph bridge – this movement was used in lots of different watches, and movement swaps are not uncommon, so always check this. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
