A hard to find Seiko 6205 7980, as many have been bought and broken into parts for the movement.  A variation of this movement is also used in the very valuable 62MAS Seiko divers watch.  More can be read about this here.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the caseback we can accurately date this watch to August 1965.

CONDITION

This is very original.  At first we didn’t think the band was a Seiko item, but a check on Google Images shows some of the same model with the same bracelet (marked SEALION M66).  The clasp is a bit bent, and the strap has some stretching, but it is the right part and it is big enough for most wrists  we have cleaned the bracelet in our ultrasonic bath.  The quickset date works overnight as it should, and the automatic only winding is fine too on the 24 jewel Seiko 6205 movement.  The dark grey dial really catches the light in pleasing ways, and is very clean.  We have fitted a new crystal.  This watch is larger than most vintage watches of its period.

SIZE

36.6mm wide including the recessed original crown, 12.3mm thick.  Takes a 20mm strap.  The bracelet will fit a maximum wrist size of approximately  199mm.
