A solid gold men’s vintage Longines watch, with subsecond dial and a manual movement. Completely desirable.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we know this was made in 1965, and this matches the inscription on the case back. The case was assayed in 1963, but the watch can not have been completed until 1965. The engraving shows dates from 1905 to 1965 – we doubt this represents 60 years as a builder, but might be for a 60th birthday.
CONDITION
The gold case on this Longines was made by David Shackman and Son, and is also stamped for Baume who were the official Longines importer to the UK in the 1960’s. Shackman made cases for many top brands, as importing gold watches carried a very high duty level so movements were imported and cased in the UK to circumvent the punitive taxes. Inside that case is a Longines calibre 370 movement, a 17 jewel hand winding movement that is finished like all Longines of this period beautifully. The dial does have some light patina evenly distributed across it, but the applied markers are all good – usually watches with gold cases had gold markers too. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred (Light tan leather would be our choice, but we have to order some). The acrylic crystal is new.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
