This 41 jewel automatic Roxy men’s watch has an automatic movement set in the square case.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This Roxy is the German one (there is a Swiss brand too), and they started making watches in 1935. Happily for us the case has a date stamp for 5.6.61, which also matches the production dates of this movement.
CONDITION
We haven’t counted all of the jewels in the movement, but 41 is an awful lot for a three hand watch. You can see things like the barrel have jewels (jewels are synthetic rubies and they act like bearings) which is not usual, but in reality the jewel count is more top trumps than high end horology. The movement is Felsa’s calibre 4002, which has a calendar but not quick set to speed up adjustment. The dial is bent , which happens when you fit a round movement onto a square dial – we have models from Longines and Zenith that also have the same issue. The gold plated case is quite good, and the acrylic glass has no cracks or chips. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
Please not the crown is pulled out in the photos, but not in the video. The plating is a little pitted but the crown fits nicely and is perfectly functional.
