A very smart Vertex Revue Swiss pocket watch, set in a Dennison Star case.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1960. These cases were guaranteed for ten years, so had to be date stamped (which does make our job easier!)
CONDITION
Pocket watches would have been very old fashioned by 1960, and were often given as presentation pieces to commemorate long service at a place of work. But this watch has never been engraved, and there are signs of wear that show that the watch was used regularly – the owner still used this watch instead of a wristwatch. The case is by the English maker Dennison and that quality shows – the front cover has a small dent near 8, but still springs open positively. Likewise the bow has just the right resistance – not stiff and not floppy. The wear we mention earlier mainly shows to the top of the winder, and the patina is quite nice. The dial is close to perfect and unusual in that it is at ninety degrees to the winder, whereas normally the crown would line up with 12. The blued hands are very nice indeed. The movement is a Vertex 31, a 18.5 ligne 15 jewel manual winding calibre which is running very well and is nicely finished.
This watch will be supplied with a presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
