This 1958 ladies solid gold Avia watch had a 15 jewel manual movement and is complete with its original tin box.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the UK hallmark stamped on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1958.
CONDITION
The watch is in nice condition. Unusually the case is hinged, which makes it more secure but also harder to photograph the hallmark. The plated bracelet is a stretch type that may well be later, but this watch could also be worn on a leather strap. The movement is running well, and is wound via the signed Avia crown. It is hard to find watches from this period with the original box, as most were cheap cardboard items that have perished, but this box is made from metal. We haven’t tried to clean the box, and it is a little grubby, but we don’t want to remove the patina.
