An unusually large watch for the period, from a top Swiss brand.  Universal Geneve were most famous for their chronographs and the Polerouter models.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1956.

CONDITION

The dial has a nice pattern around the hour markers, and is original.  A lot of dials of this period are damaged by cigarette smoke, but not in this case.  There is however a small scratch near 10.  The stainless steel case looks nice, but the case back does seem to be just a little too large – we don’t have enough reference material available to see if they were all like this.  The case does all clip together nicely.  The copper hour markers compliment the copper applied Universal Geneve logo on the dial.  The strap is new.  The in house 1200 series movement runs, winds and sets nicely.  A 37 mm case doesn’t seem oversized if you are used to wearing modern watches, but in 1956 this would have been 3-4 mm larger than the majority of watches.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
