HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1956.
CONDITION
Most ladies watches were manual wind. Part of this was styling – not having automatic winding made the cases slimmer – and part was technical – it is not easy making such a small automatic movement as the Omega calibre 455 that is housed in this watch. The 17 jewel movement is working well, but it is always advisable on older automatics to give them a few winds via the crown before you put the watch on and then let the auto mechanism top up the power. The case is all stainless steel, with a screw on case back. The dial looks golden but it is actually silver with patina evenly spread all over. The crown is signed with the Omega logo, as was the glass – this had a crack and had to be replaced with a new OEM part. The expanding bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
The Ladymatic range was launched in 1955, and relaunched more recently (larger watches, eyewatering prices). This pre dated Rolex’s first automatic ladies watch by a couple of years.
