This men’s vintage Bulova Senator wristwatch features a rolled gold case and fantastic art deco numerals.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back and on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1952. There is also the same model listed on the excellent Bulova website for 1952 here.
CONDITION
The Senator model sat alongside names in the Bulova catalogue like Ambassador and President, and showed the ambition of the company. And it worked. With finance options such as 75c down and 75c a week it was possible to own a nice watch, The Senator has nice bullhorn lugs, and at 18mm wide are a bit larger than average for the period. The Bretton expanding bracelet looks a lot like the example on the MyBulova website, so may be the original. The case is gold filled, which s much thicker than gold plate so shows less wear after all these decades. The manual winding movement is a in house Bulova 10BT, and it is running well. The barrel shaped acrylic crystal has no chips, and just the tiniest stress fracture near three – if we didn’t tell you you may never notice them. For a period in time where many people smoked the dial is exceptionally clean, with just light patina near the crown. The numerals are very nice, and the hands original. This watch is a good example of why Bulova watches of this period are popular.
