Great to find this Eterna men’s vintage watch that still has the original box and papers after over 60 years.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1952. But the original Certificate of Guarantee, with the same serial number, is dated for November 1956, as is the caseback inscription. Either year can be considered valid for a Birth Year Watch, but 1956 is the more obvious.
CONDITION
The dial is heavily patinaed, but you will have noticed this already. Some people would repaint the dial, but we prefer originality. The good news is that the 15 jewel movement, Eterna’s own 520S, is clean and running well and this sits in a good sized stainless steel case, complete with drilled lugs to make strap changes easier. The hands are the original radium lume filled items. The screw down case back is inscribed for a 21st birthday present, also for 1956. The leather strap is new, and the case back seal has been replaced too. While this watch is far from perfect condition, it is very wearable and enjoyable.
