This Men’s vintage Seamaster has the calibre 351 bumper automatic movement, set in a heavy gold plated case.  Model number 2577-4

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1950.

CONDITION

We hadn’t noticed the crystal was cracked on the crown side until we edited the photos.  This will be replaced before the watch is sent to the new owner.

Bumper autos were ultimately phased out by full rotor automatic watches, but there are lots of people that like the bumpers as they a) like the feeling of the rotor moving in its arc, and b) like to be different to the crowd.  Omega made some of the finest examples, and this early Seamaster is a good example.  The case is far from factory fresh, but the 80 micron gold plating is as thick as any gold plate you would hope to find.  The Seamaster range was launched in 1948, so this is an early example.  The dial is clean from most dirt, but there is an arc near the centre where something has scratched the dial.  The crown appears to be the original one, and has a Mercedes three pointed star set within the Omega logo – this is not something we have seen before.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
