With a military look designed to appeal to ex servicemen this Jaeger-LeCoultre was perfect for its time.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1949.
CONDITION
Jaeger-LeCoultre have a long and fine history in watchmaking. Not only with watches like the Reverso, or supplying base movements (ebauche) to Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin, but they also made some of the finest military watches of WW2 that are highly prized (and priced) today. This watch was never military issued, but the large sub seconds is very similar and this example also has a rather nice flush fitting crown, for added protection against knocks. The case is typical of the period being of base metal construction and then chromed, just like the Smiths watches we have from the same year currently. The dial is good, and was subject to a good restoration a few years ago. There is a light scratch on the dial under the words Jaeger-LeCoultre, and one or two spots, but the quality of the redial is very fine. The movement is JLC’s manual wind calibre P489/C, and it is running nicely. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred – or possibly a NATO style strap might suit this? The drilled lugs make strap changing easier.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
