A dual branded dial for this watch made by Longines and retailed by J W Benson, in an 18k gold case.  High quality everywhere.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we know this was made in 1934.  The case has import hallmarks for 1935, and the inscription on the back is for January 1936.

CONDITION

The appeal of dual branded watches is obvious.  You not only own a J W Benson, but you also own a Longines, and you have only added one watch to your collection.  Longines history (since 1832) is better known of course and easier to research, but J W Benson were founded in London in 1847.  They quickly became a premium retailer and watchmaker, gaining Royal warrants from Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales and Tsar of Russia among others.  Their workshops were destroyed during World War 2, and eventually the name was sold to Garrard.

This watch has a Swiss made 18k gold case with wire lugs.  The movement is Longines calibre 12.92 and is running very well.  The enamel dial is original – we have tested the lume and it is radium – and it is not cracked.  There is a small chip to the edge at 27 however.  The glass is not chipped.  The case has one or two dents but nothing terrible considering the age of this watch.  The strap is new.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
