A nice men’s stainless steel manual wind Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Duo (sometimes called the Day Night) on the original bracelet.  Model reference 270.880.544(M)

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

We don’t have the papers for this watch, but we do have a copy of International Watch Magazine from early in 1997 with a picture of this model.  We also have the 1995/96 catalogue and price list, where this watch has the price at £5,090 in steel with the bracelet.  A gold one, on the bracelet, was £14,740!  We think this watch dates from circa 1997.

CONDITION

The Reverso is THE watch that people think of when you say Jaeger-LeCoultre.  First launched in 1931 the idea was that you could flip the watch face over and use the case back to protect the glass while playing polo.  How often it has been used for this purpose, who knows!  It was quite common to have the back engraved with your monogram.

This Duo-Face has the caliber 854 movement, which is very clever and makes the most of the Reverso design.  Through one manually wound movement you can control two dials, one on each side, so not only can you have a different dial on each side but you can set each side to a different timezone.  Though it was never called the Day/Night officially, this is the moniker that is sometimes used as it features on the dial and not everyone knows the official name.  The night dial is the black dial, as this has lume on the dial and hands.  The white dial can be used during the day, or you can be a rebel and use them however you want!  The only thing we wouldn’t recommend is playing Polo whilst wearing this Reverso.

The watch is in superb condition and running wonderfully.  The photos and videos are taken with a link already removed from each side of the bracelet, which can be refitted if needed but will otherwise be supplied with the watch.  The guilloche dials are a real sign of quality, and we have cropped some photos to show these up close.  The silver dial has a sub seconds dial, and the black dial has a 24 hour indicator.  JLC still use this movement, and the Duoface medium is the current equivalent and that costs £7,700 without the bracelet (the bracelet was a £550 upgrade back in 1995).

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
