Tissot and Martini both sponsored the Lotus F1 team in 1979, but this watch celebrates the Lancia Martini World Rally team and their fabulous Delta Integrale that had won six consecutive World Rally Championships.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The Martini sponsored Integrale won its last WRC title in 1992, and this fits the movement dates too. We have also found the original article in International Watch Magazine from February/March 1992 launching this watch at a cost of £325.
CONDITION
Based on the Integrale colour scheme of white background with red and blue accents, we believe this model was only marketed in the Italian domestic market. It was also available with a black background, but to our eye the white dial suits the livery design far better.
You ave constant seconds on the subdial at 6. Then the chronograph has a 1/10ths second dial at 2, a 12 hour counter at 10 and unusually there are two hands centrally mounted for the chronograph, measuring seconds and minutes. The video shows these in action. They align perfectly, so normally you only see one hand. This movement also features a separately adjustable hour hand – pull the crown to the first position and the hour hand jumps forward or backwards by an hour at a time. This is ideal for frequent flyers who cross time zones, and is also the fastest way to change the date. The condition of the watch is near perfect, with just two very light scratches on the non crown side of the case. We can not say for certain if this watch has ever been worn – the strap isn’t marked Tissot (but the buckle is), but the strap may be the original one. This watch also has unusual lugs – one side needs to be snipped out, and the other needs the sides trimming. This is easily done with a pair of notch trimming pliers (They can be had for about £5)
