This Sicura Rallye GT has a rotating divers bezel, and a second world time bezel and was recently fully serviced.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Sicura watches are not easy to date, but from the styling and the movement production dates lead us to think this was made circa 1965. This is backed up with two adverts for the sister brand Cardinal, one from 1963 and one from 1967 shared with us from a very knowledgeable collector.
CONDITION
Sicura watches have nothing in common with Breitling. The owner of Sicura went on to buy a new bankrupt Breitling in 1979, but none of the engineering crossed over. The ‘Sicura by Breitling’ is nothing more than a method to inflate the price, and it is not difficult to find these Rallye GT models priced in the high hundreds. Yes, it is a black dialed waterproof watch of a good size from the 1960’s, and therefore very desirable, but it is not the quality of a Breitling. The case is chrome plated and the movement, an EB8210N, is a 23 jewel pin pallet hand wind one with no quick set date. So while it is a good looker, it is not high horology.
Condition wise this is a nice example. It is running sweetly, thanks to a service in 2019 that we have the receipt for. It actually winds very nicely indeed. Both bezels turn independently, as they should. The case is in good condition, with just the very tips of the lugs showing wear. The screw down case back does have some tool slip marks on it, from before we acquired the watch. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
