Prestigious jewellers Prestons of Bolton would have commissioned this stopwatch to be made to their specification.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Prestons of Bolton served the local community well for 150 years, before closing in 2016.  Stopwatch movements were in production for a long time, but given the styling and the movement production dates we think this was made circa 1955 (but it could easily be earlier or later – no guarantees on this one.)

CONDITION

The movement is a Valjoux 320, which is manually wound and has a stop start slider on the left and instant flyback and restart via the crown.  Given that it is very unlikely that Prestons made this watch themselves, they are more likely to have subcontracted the work out, and favourites to have made the watch would be Heuer (forerunner of TAG Heuer).  Not only were they specialist in stopwatches, but the same Valjoux 320 was also known as the Heuer 340 and featured in their catalogues.  The acrylic has a few little marks, and the writing for Prestons has partly faded off the dial, but otherwise everything is okay.  The nickel plated case is in good condition, save for a big fingerprint etched in the inside of the outer case back from a greasy print many years ago.

This watch will be supplied with a basic presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
