And now for something completely different!  A prototype for a series of watches that never made production, with a very cheeky dial.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

The owner of Zeno Watch Basel told us that this prototype was put together in 1980.  We bought the watch directly from him.

CONDITION

The watch is unworn, and still has the price sticker on the buckle.  There are small marks on the case from handling and storage, but they are minor.  The 36mm case, with fluted bezel, is a good size for the time, much larger than most 1980 watches.

So let’s talk about the design.  The dial varies from completely black, to revealing the naked image seemingly twice a minute.  The dial doesn’t seem to react to light or heat, so we are not clear how the image appears and disappears.  This watch is very out of touch with modern thinking, but in 1980 Benny Hill was one of the biggest entertainers in showbiz, so it is of its time.  The seconds hand is a mystery dial disc, so you only see the pointer turning.  The AS 2062 17 jewel automatic movement is running nicely.  The strap is faded slightly, and if it wasn’t originally with this prototype we would have put a black leather strap with this.  That is still an option.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
