A triple gold men’s vintage Tudor, fitted with a very long solid gold bracelet. Model reference 94594
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the hallmark on the clasp and matching hallmark on the inside of the caseback we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in London in 1976.
CONDITION
Triple gold means the dial, case and bracelet are all gold, and these watches look great against darker skin tones, even if that is just a summer tan! The dial does have patina. The case back has never been engraved. The real problem with this type of integrated bracelet is you struggle to extend them, and people were smaller back in 1976, so most that you find just don’t fit modern wrists. That is not the case here, as both sides of the bracelet have been extended already and the bracelet is more likely to need to be shortened than lengthened. This is an easy job for most jewellers, and the scrap gold removed will probably pay for the adjustment easily. The dial does have some patina, and the ribbon type bracelet has a few small defects that do not affect how the bracelet flows or the structural integrity. Both bracelet and case were made for Tudor by David Shackman and Sons, a very reputable goldsmiths who also made cases for JLC, Rolex and Omega among many others. The movement is a 17 jewel, manual wind ETA 2750, which was branded Tudor so we can be sure it is original to the watch. Overall this is a quality Swiss Tudor watch with an exceptionally long bracelet from a year where the price of gold had quadrupled in four years, so it would never have been a cheap item.
