A classic hummer Bulova Accutron with the 2182 electronic movement, which gives not only the ‘humm’, but also such a smooth sweep second hand.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back and the watch movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1974.
CONDITION
The Accutron range were first launched in 1960, with the back set 214 movement. The next development was the 218 series, like this watch, which had a conventional crown. The technology was licensed by Certina, Longines and Omega in their f300 models among others. The onset of cheaper quartz movements killed these tuning fork watches, so this is towards the end of production.
The stainless steel case has a few scratches, but presents very well. The case back has the tab needed to locate it, which are sometimes damaged, and is held in place by the screwed down retention ring. The day date has quick set date, but you turn the hands past midnight to set the day. The watch is running very well, and still has the original signed crown. The grey dial is the real USP here though – it’s very clean, and has white hour markers that match the stick hands, making it very legible. The red centre second hand is a nice touch. The grey suede strap is lightly used, but looks to good to change in our view. However, if you want a new black leather strap then we will fit one for free.
This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
