HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1972.

CONDITION

This watch looks good.  The styling is quite conservative, but the watch is highly original and all the better for it.  The dial is very bright silver and quite clean, and this is visible via the original Omega signed acrylic crystal (the Ω symbol is etched on the inside of the glass, right in the centre).  The crown is also signed, but has lost a bit of colour.  The 21 jewel movement is the automatic calibre 1481.  These have a known weakness, with the quick set date mechanism often failing.  On this watch it works, but it is not able to be covered under the warranty as parts are very hard to get (because so many broke – don’t change the quick set date after 8pm or before 4am to be safe.).  The 20 micron gold plated case is good with just slight marks and light rubbing on the lugs, but the case back has clumsy tool marks where someone slipped.  The generic black leather strap and gold tone buckle are new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.  This is a very wearable watch, working equally with a suit or jeans, and the price is good for a fully working 1481 watch – these 1972 Omega movements can fetch several hundred alone.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
