HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in June 1971. The sales paperwork shows is was sold in December 1971, so this is definitely a 1971 watch.
CONDITION
The DX name is another Seiko sub-brand from the 60’s and 70’s and is just an abbreviation of deluxe. The movement is the 25 jewel calibre 6106C, which has been kept pristine in the unusual waterproof case design. It is running very well, and the quick set date and day is functioning correctly. The day is in English and French, as the rare and nice hangtag shows – we have never seen one of these before. This movement also hacks, which was one of the extra features you got with a DX. To wind the watch you have to shake it, as there is no manual wind option – hence the flush fitting crown. The case is good, with just a few marks, and the matt blue dial is very clean. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, which is essential for this fine mesh bracelets as dirt can become trapped and make the bracelet stiff. This bracelet was another ungrade on the DX models, but you can easily swap for a leather strap if you want to change the look.
