A hard to find gold plated Seiko LM, model number 5606-3110, on a good size bracelet with working quickset day date.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in December 1972.
CONDITION
The LM models are better than average Seikos, and sit below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko ranges with which they share some movements, or at least components. The LM model here features hand winding as well as automatic (more basic Seiko watches were auto only), hacking and a solid link bracelet rather than the usual folded bracelets. The 5606 movement in this Seiko (the model numbers for Seiko show the movement calibre first, then the model number, hence 5606-3110) is a high specification 23 jewel item, but has a design flaw. If you try and use the quick set date change near midnight then it breaks the quickset changer, and these are no longer available. Many LM models have been broken for parts to repair the more expense King and Grand Seiko’s for this very reason. On this example the quickset does work, as shown in the video, but due to the unfortunate few that buy a watch, remove parts and then return the watch as broken (with their broken parts refitted!) we would not cover this under guarantee. The bracelet and case has lost quite a bit of plating, as shown in the photos, but the majority of this is on the underside of the watch. The dial is very good, the acrylic crystal has been polished and is not chipped, and the movement is keeping good time.
