HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The earliest record of the M1/01 model we can find dates from 2015, and there are still some old stock new ones on Chrono24 at around £900-1,100, so we think this watch was made circa 2016.
CONDITION
SevenFriday started out in 2012 with a frankly daft idea. The industry said square watches don’t sell, and chronographs are popular. So the founder of SevenFriday decided to make square watches that do not have a chronograph. Clearly this sounded like financial suicide, but the company has flourished and is a favourite on Instagram.
This is a large watch and this one does have a few ‘signs of life’. The bezel has a ding on the bottom right corner, and a lighter one nearer 12. And while we have the original leather strap and buckle we have opted to fit a different new rubber strap, as the original is very worn. The strap we chose has blue stitching to compliment the blue lines showing where to read the time. You can buy an original strap if it is important to you from SevenFriday here. This isn’t an easy watch to glance at and tell the time, so you do need to get used to this design, and the manual shows how to tell the time on the three rotating discs. There are currently only 23 M1 watches on Chrono24 (at time of press), and the cheapest is £726. This is substantially cheaper because it is not cosmetically perfect and we don’t have the original box and papers.
