A scarce model, this square Hampton Dual Time from Baume & Mercier allows you to track two time zones. Model reference 65561.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Sadly we don’t have the paperwork for this watch, and the precise model doesn’t feature in the books we have either. However we have found another Hampton Dual Time 65561 that sold and had sales paperwork dated 2011, and this matches the style of other Hampton models in the 2011 Wristwatch Annual so we are happy with this as a likely year of production.
CONDITION
Square watches always wear larger than round cases – mathematics proves this as the area covering the wrist is larger on a square watch. That feeling is further enhanced by the wide leather strap, making this feel quite chunky. The stainless steel case is unpolished so will show some light scratches, but the sapphire crystal is perfect. The dial is very clean, both in condition and design so it doesn’t feel cluttered. The second time zone can be quick set via the crown, and measures a full 24 hours rather than 12 like the regular hour hand. The movement is signed for Baume & Mercier on the rotor, but is actually an ETA 2893-2 so in future parts and servicing should be easy. The leather strap is the original and has some wear. You can still get a new strap from Baume & Mercier, but you can also buy aftermarket strap in various colours and materials if preferred.
